Spanish mobile phone users going online
February 13, 2008
20% of Spanish internet users believe they will access the internet solely by mobile phone according to a study carried out on 1000 Spanish users by multinational Buongiorno during the Mobile World Congress.
According to Spanish users, what mostly restrains them from connecting their mobile phones to the internet are the slow connection and the high prices. If it were not for this, they would dedicate much more time to navigating on the internet on their mobile phones. Nevertheless, 1 out of 5 people in Spain already navigate on their mobile phone - 20% of these said they access the internet more than 3 times a day, 13% once a day and 12% does so on an average of 4 to 5 times a week and 55% less than 4 times a week.
Concerning the time they dedicate to each connection, the study shows that half of the interviewed are online between 1 and 5 minutes, 26% between 5 and 15 minutes and 11% between 15 and 30 minutes.
On the other hand, 47% of Spanish users connect to the internet to see their email versus 16% to download music. Moreover, 10% do so to view the price of holidays and flights, and 10% to read last minute news.
This would be great news for the future of mobile phone providers, yet before consumers are ready to drop their home connections; better quality of connection and increased competition to reduce the high prices are required.
