13 million spectactors followed the debate Rajoy vs. Zapatero
February 27, 2008
8.017.000 spectators followed yesterday’s debate on TVE1 between the candidates for the presidency, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Mariano Rajoy.
Adding on the rest of the people that subsequently saw the re-diffusions on other channels, the number rises to 13 million people. This means that more than half of the people that were watching TV at this time, opted for the political content.
In this way, the debate Zapatero-Rajoy becomes the 4th most viewed broadcasting in the history of television, just behind Eurovision.
The candidates started off civil and formal yet ended up in sever confrontation. The first debate between the candidates for the presidency in 15 years was plagued by mutual accusations of lying and personal disqualifications. Zapatero defended his optimism and Rajoy his realism.
The debate lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes; nevertheless, today’s polls, not surprisingly, show no indication of any variation in the publics’ opinion.
Let us see what will happen next week when (hopefully) both candidates decide to reinforce their arguments for the final debate before the elections of the 9th of March 2008.
